The Best Air Fryer Chicken Drumsticks

This is such a simple yet amazingly delicious recipe for juicy, crispy yet tender air fried chicken drumsticks! They have such an incredible crispy crunchy texture with just a few simple ingredients, yhat it's hard to believe there is no breading on them!

If you haven't tried air fried chicken, you may be skeptical. Remember that the food in an air fryer isn't actually fried in an unhealthy manner.  Air fryer food is more like ultra-convection broiled. This basically means that with a tiny bit of oil you’ll get delicious crispy chicken. I love using my air fryer, it’s so easy to clean and so simple to use, I think it’s better than the oven for cooking drumsticks. With this cooking tool, instead of the need for breading, the natural fat and skin on a chicken drumstick mimics fried chicken! The high-heat from the air-fryer helps to crisp up the chicken skin and fat, giving it a breaded crisp, without any added carbs, gluten, or breading. This is a great reduced calorie way to enjoy delicious food!

So if you love delicious, crunchy chicken that is bursting with flavor, crispy when you bite into it, and tender and juicy inside, this recipe is for you.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 chicken drumsticks

  • 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

  • 1 teaspoon of fresh cracked pepper

  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon of  paprika

STEPS:

  1. Place the drumsticks in a large mixing bowl or a plastic bag and drizzle with olive oil. Toss to coat.

  2. Sprinkle herbs and spices all over drumsticks to coat them.

  3. Preheat the air fryer at 400F (200C). Mine has an automatic timed preheat feature, if yours doesn’t, preheat for 5 minutes.

  4. Place the drumsticks in the air fryer basket without overlapping them and set the timer for 25 minutes at 400F/200C.

  5. My air fryer beeps at the halfway point of the cook time selected, if yours does not, be sure to pause and open the air fryer after 12 minutes to flip the drumsticks.

  6. Cook them for the remainder of the time (13 minutes).

  7. To be safe, use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken has reached 165F  internally, and if it hasn't, add another 5 minutes of cook-time

  8. Bon appétit!
