Hey! Nice to meet you!

For years, I have served as a compassionate source to those seeking inspiration, help, or advice. I send daily motivational quotes to many. I finally decided to own that role and be intentional about it. I started writing about my passions, my thoughts, and I recently founded Eating With Houri with a mission to give others a taste of what goes on in my mind. I have always been such a huge fan of food. Cooking has become a passion of mine.

I currently live in Kingston, Ontario with my husband Jeff and our two kids Alex & Isabella. We’ve also lived in Miami, Florida, we have strong ties there. My favorite things in life are family, traveling, a big plate of sushi, and listening to the waves. I've been called a foodie for years. I am a firm believer that we eat with our eyes first. The appearance of the food in front of us will impact our experience even before we taste it. I began really paying attention to all the elements of the food I was cooking, eating, serving my family. Being diagnosed with a heart condition from an early age caused me to be very aware of the food I eat and means that I still take extra care into what I put in my body. What started as a casual hobby for nights and weekends while teaching and raising kids, has evolved into a full-blown ambition that I've decided to share with people!

I credit much of this passion to my mom. I was raised in a traditional Persian home where the food my mom cooked was a work of art that has inspired me since a young age. Her dishes were, and still are, a true symphony of flavors. I remember watching her spend countless hours cooking a single dish, and wonder to myself, why? Why was she cooking such complex dishes for three young children, when we would’ve eaten anything she would’ve made. But I appreciate it so much now and aspire to do the same for my family.

In this space, I am always sharing fresh, flavorful, (mostly) healthy recipes that I love to make and eat in my real, actual, every day life. If I wouldn’t eat, I won’t put in on the blog. My goal is to inspire you with food that is both approachable and exciting, whether you’re cooking for yourself, your family, your roommates, or your friends. I want you to be so excited about these recipes that you eagerly await when you can go home from work and start cooking. I absolutely love seeing the food that you’re cooking. It will make my day if you tag @hourih in your Instagram photos and stories!

On another note, I have always been intrigued by the restaurant scene and food reviews/critics. To be honest, I personally rely heavily on these and often base my decisions on where/what to eat on them. (Please tell me I'm not alone!) It's been a dream to be able to contribute one day, so I've added a category devoted to this, so that I can share my experiences with you!
