Delicious Hot Dog Burnt Ends

These Hot Dog Burnt Ends are next level! They're juicy, sweet, smoky, and just packed full of flavor. One of our dinner guests referred to them as heavenly morsels of pure awesomeness!

You may be thinking, Houri, you served cut up hot dogs to your dinner guests? For shame.. Well, yes, that's what they're labeled as, but once you bite into one, you'll see that it's so much more than just a hot dog! These are one of the most delicious appetizers that are sure to please. They're like a meaty candy!

Now that I’ve hyped you up for an amazing snack, go give my recipe a try, they are sure to be a huge hit at your next party!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 10 jumbo hot dogs of your choice

  • 2 tablespoons of yellow mustard (enough to coat all the hot dogs)

  • 2 tablespoons of your favourite rub (I use Pit Boss' Smoke Infused Whiskey Fruit Wood)

  • 1/2 cup of the BBQ sauce of your choice (I use our homemade secret formula BBQ sauce- sorry, I can't share the details!

  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar

  • 2 tablespoons of butter

STEPS:

  1. Prepare your smoker for indirect cooking at a temperature of 180-200°F.

  2. Slather the hot dogs with the yellow mustard which acts as a binder and season all over with your rub.

  3. Place the hot dogs directly on the grill grates, close the lid, and smoke for 1 hour.

  4. Remove the hot dogs and slice them into 1/2 inch pieces. Place the hot dog pieces into a disposable baking pan. Top with the butter, brown sugar, and BBQ sauce.

  5. Increase the heat on your grill to 375° F. Place the pan with the hotdogs in the smoker for 30 minutes, stirring every 5-10 min, until the butter is melted and the sugars have started to caramelize on the hot dogs.

  6. Remove the hot dog burnt ends from the smoker and transfer to a serving platter. Try your best to resist the urge to pop one in your mouth during this stage because you will burn the roof of your mouth, trust me! Let them cool a bit before this.

  7. Bon appétit!
